DOES THE NEW MANIFESTO CONSIDER THE AGED?


Helpage Ghana has held a seminar to discuss the newly launched manifestoes of various political parties in the country to know the position of older persons in the country. The seminar was themed "Political parties manifesto and the Ghanaian older persons". It witnessed older persons across the country to discuss various issues concerning the aged in Accra. The President of Helpage Ghana Prof. Nana Apt said it was very important for politicians to consider the aged when drafting their manifestoes to assist them in their respective day to day activities. It was important to advance the interest and welfare of older persons in public regardless of creed and colour.Reitrating some of the importance to include the aged in the various manifestoes he said, it will help in addressing aging issues and problems facing older persons." Some of these necessities conform to the objective of Helpage as an NGO such as assisting the initiation and development through research and advocacy of pragmatic national policies and service for older persons and to also assist organizations working with and for older persons in Ghana to develop appropriate community based services for older persons. He advised all older persons to vote peacefully as the youth always emulate whatever they do. He also called on corporate entities and individuals to support the organization in its activities. The various political parties present gave various presentations on the party's manifestoes considering the aged.Helpage Ghana was establish 1988 to promote the prospects of older persons in Ghana.
