AKUAPEMS CELEBRATES SUCCESSFUL ODWIRA

The people of Akropong has successfully celebrated this years Odwira festival which means purification. It was a period for reflection over past activities over the years and to also invoke memories of the brave deeds and sacrifice made by their fore fathers. The occasion which started on the 13th to 17th witnessed various activities such as cleaning of the township to welcome visitors, stool cleansing and performance of traditional rites, grand durbar of chiefs together with visitors, sons and daughters of the lands and thanks giving service to end the celebration. At the climax of the grand durbar the chief of the land, Nana Oseadeeyo Addo Dankwa III thanked God for his protection and blessing for the past years and the years ahead. He stated that it was the 183rd unbroken anniversary of Odwira festival since its introduction in 1826 by Nana Addo Dankwa I. The modern significance of Odwira festival was the appraisal of their activities in fighting against illiteracy, poor sanitation, malnutrition , AAunemployment , tribal and ethnic disputes among others to improve quality of life. He called for peace as it was the fulcrum for growth and development. Nana Addo Dankwa III said various foundations in the community are also helping to address some of the basic school problems in the community as initiated by the Nana Oye Mansa Yeboaa the Dompiahene of Akuapem. Thanked all individuals and corporate organization promoting education in the community. He called on political parties and its aspirants and respective supporters in the country to exercise their franchise peacefully on the day of election to demonstrate the democracy that exist in the country. He thanked government for its immense help to their community.
