The Coca-cola bottling company of Ghana ahs awarded the participants of this year's national essay writing competition in Accra. The main objective of the competition since its inception eight years ago is to help bridge the gap between public and private educational institutions regarding linguistic competencies. Students of public schools are encouraged and motivated to read and write essays on relevant topics after which excellence is rewarded with an all expense paid for outside Ghana. The turn-out in this year's competition has been astronomical with entry figures exceeding 30,000 from 6000.With this figures; there are great signs of improved motivation among students from the public schools, sign of stronger commitment among partners and achievable vision said a representative form Coca-cola. In a statement by the Deputy Director –General of the Ghana Education Service Benedicta Naana Biney appealed to the management of Coca-cola bottling company, Ghana to help the GES a step further in re-training the English teachers in the classroom. This is because the mistakes that have been identified by these teachers must be corrected and the teachers can do this very well when they have been adequately trained. The common mistakes identified in the various written essay's have been complied, corrected and will be published for the education of formal and non-formal learners. She congratulated Coca-Cola for their immense support to the high projection of education in Ghana. Ms Biney also congratulated the award winners and encouraged them to keep learning and to the losers urged them to work extra harder. Awarding the winners; the first prize went to Gameli Judith Attawa of Basic Ordinance Depot in Accra, winning a plaque, a ticket to South Africa, scholarship, a computer, books and products from Coca-cola, The second runner-up was Cole Joana of Sacred Heart JHS R/C in Brong-Aharfo and Bansah Esenam of University Basic School, Accra all winning a plaque,scholarsips,a computer each, books and Coca-cola products.
