GHANAIANS ASSURED QUALITY STANDARDS

The Ministry of Trade, Industry, Private Sector Development and President's Special Initiatvies Papa Owusu -Ankomah has commissioned a fundamental review of the legal and institutional regime for standards, quality assurance and accreditation in Ghana. This stakeholders meeting was held in Accra to review and validate the report and recommendations with the aim of comprehensively strengthening the policy framework for standardisation with the formulation of a clear and transparent national standards policy. This will lead to the revision of laws, technical regulations and clarification of institution mandates relating to quality standards in the country. The Minister said this at the commemoration of the 39th World Standards Day celebrations in Accra. "It will be implemented to clarify and lat to rest the seeming overlaps in roles and mandates of some of the key standards and regulatory institutions in order to ensure stronger collaboration in promoting quality management and protecting consumers". He said the policy also proposes to open up the standards infrstructure to greater investment and participation from the private sector either directly or in partnership with the public sector.The steps are already being taken to upgrade the key laboratories in various standards and regulatory bodies with technical assistance from a Swiss-funded capacity building project under the United Nations Industrial Develpment Organisation.
