THE LEGACY OF EFUA SUTHERLAND:PAN AFRICAN CULTURAL ACTIVISM LAUNCHED.

The British Council Accra in collaboration with Ayebia Clarke Publishing Limited in U.K has formally launched a pan African book in Accra.The Book titled ,The Legacy of Efua Sutherland :pan African cultural activism, was published 11 years ago after the death of Efua Sutherland.This book will rekindle an aweareness of cultural dynamism,activism and diasporic connections that she achieved through her lifetime.Reviewing the legacy of Efua Sutherland by Dr. Kwesi Owusu a pan African activist he said the book was full of Sutherlands creative lineage. The 278 pages book is divided into three sections.The first composed of critical studies of sutherlands works that is, her plays and writing for chidren .The second section include narratives and interviews by colleagues which reveals the breath and depth of the writers vision.Third and last section contains moving tributes that return to us through Sutherlands achievements,particularly her role as a pan African cultural activist.The contributors represent a roll call of fine interllectuals from both sides of the Atlantic and Europe. Prof.Kwesi Yankah the Pro Vice Chancellor of the University of Ghana retirated that, Efua Sutherland played a pivotal role not only in survival of drama and theatre as an academic discipline in his outfit but also developing concepts that best suited the African world view and enriched the African heritage.
