Zain Ghana today announced the establishment of toll free emergency short-code numbers to give Zain customers easy access to the emergency services. Zain customers can connect to emergency personnel 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by dialing the following short codes on their handsets: ‘191’ for the Ghana Police, ‘192’ for the Ghana National Fire Service and ‘193’ for the Ghana Ambulance Service.
In a presentation at Zain Ghana’s flagship store in Osu, representatives from Ghana’s emergency services were each presented with a response-ready handset. Deputy Chief Fire Officer (DCFO) Philip Aheng-Mensah, Director of Fire Safety for the Ghana National Fire Service and Mr. George Ashie of the Ghana Ambulance Service accepted the donation on behalf of their respective departments. Ghana Police will also receive a handset from Zain.
Reflecting on today’s announcement, DCFO Aheng-Mensah said, "We are pleased that Zain recognizes the importance of making Ghana’s emergency response system available to all of its customers nationwide. Zain’s efforts, including today’s presentation of handsets, gives us confidence that they fully support our commitment to maintaining the health and safety of our citizens."
Carmen Bruce-Annan, Public Relations and Communications Manager for Zain Ghana said, "We recognize that it is important for Zain customers to have quick and easy access to the emergency services at no cost to them. Zain recognizes the importance of the work of the emergency services and is happy to assist in their efforts. In addition, we believe in the importance of making our customers aware of the emergency short codes and urge our customers to save these numbers for easy access in times of emergency"
The Zain brand is wholly owned by Mobile Telecommunications Company KSC, which is listed on the Kuwait Stock Exchange (Stock ticker: ZAIN). The company had a market capitalization of over US$ 23.4 billion on 30 September, 2008.
