Packaged Dawadawa powder launched in Bolgatanga

Packaged dawadawa powder, used as food additive to enhance taste and flavour, was at the weekend launched in Bolgatanga. Dawadawa, popularly known as Kologo in the Gurune language, is used by the people of the three northern regions. It is prepared from the seed of the dawadawa tree, an economic tree that grows in the north. It is reputed to protect one from getting certain diseases especially heart related diseases and diabetes. The Manageress of the Vonwa Enterprise Project, Mrs. Stephaney Amoah, said she natured the idea of manufacturing the dawadawa powder and packaging it in a more hygienic manner for sale to the public when she was in the university.She said she intends to expand production in future by exporting some of the product. Launching it the Upper East Regional Minister, Mr. Mark Woyongo, commended Mrs. Amoah in a speech read for him and said it would help complement government's efforts at achieving food security and poverty reduction in the region.He indicated that the Government was committed to setting up a Task Force to encourage large scale of dawadawa tree growing, processing and utilization of the products.
