YOUTH EMPLOYMENT FOR AFRICA HOLDS WORKSHOP ON BUDGET ADVOCACY

The Youth Employment for Africa (YEA) has held a day youth workshop on budget advocacy in Accra. The theme of the workshop was “The National budget: A public document for all". The Chairman for the occasion Mr. J.W. Ampaw said the youth is the largest identifiable group in society who are affected by the economic policies but fortunately are rediscovering from the need to follow and understand the budget. “As many concerned citizens are engaged in advocacy work to promote participation in the budgetary process". It is important as YEA is involved in the motivation and involvement in the budgetary advocacy processes which will foster the necessary change to hasten the process of development. He further added that, as the national budget determines the policy direction and development priorities, there are choices that government has to make .The budget has become the tool it uses to achieve its economic developmental goals. Mr. Ampaw reiterated that as there was never enough money to all things citizenry should even add the input and identifiable groups contribute positively to activities intended to bring the needed improvement to increase the base and pace of development of our nation. The Executive Director of Youth Employment for Africa Mr. K.K Sarfo said the aim of the workshop is to contribute to efforts of other civil society organizations, government agencies and international bodies promoting transparency and accountability in good economic governance particularly in the national budgetary process. Madam Isabella Nehmeyer-Srocke senior Advisor, GTZ, gave a presentation on some functions and components of budget and information on budget.
