Ghana owes $1b in court judgement debts

The government of Ghana is overwhelmed by a huge debt of US$1 billion resulting from court cases.The debts were judgements, fines and other fees secured by individuals and organizations against the government in court cases in the last eight years. The Attorney-General and Minister of Justice, Mrs. Betty Mould-Iddrisu made these known during her turn at the Meet-the-Press series in Accra Tuesday July 14, 2009. She said the judgement debt “is somewhere in the region of one billion US dollars.”She indicated however, that the Presidents have the mandate “to negotiate some of the more compelling judgement debts.”
