CONFERENCE ON EDUCATION QUALITY AND OUTCOMES UNDERWAY.

A two day mid-term review conference on education quality and outcomes is underway in Accra.The conference which is jointly organised by Research Consortium On Education Outcomes and Poverty (RECOUP) and Education Quality in Low Income countries (EdQual) is been suppoted by the Department Of International Development (DFID) and the Ministry of Education of Ghana. The theme for the conference is " Enhancing educational quality and outcomes in Africa:Research findings and implication for education policy". At the opening of the mid-term review conference, the Director-General of the Ghana Education Service Mr.Samuel Bannerman mensah said it was important for the support and commitment of district Assemblies and the general public for these programmes in their various district to empower as many girls as possible to participate in the programmes to enable them choose science as they progress on the education ladder. "Science ,Technology and Mathematics (STME) clinics are organised on zonal basis to encourage girls to participate in to address issues impending on their growth and development".Mr.Bannerman Mensah further added that every effort was been made to expose Ghanaian children to ICT through the provision of ICT facilities in schools. "It is very important as Africans to identify our human potentials and use it to address our problems and it is only education we give to our children which is of right quality and relevance that we can can expect a considerable change in our lives" he said.Outlining some quality education outcomes he said appropriateness of curriculum,Teacher morale,the learner-teacher partnership,class size,changes in school management and the nature of learning environment among others is what comes to mind.He commended RECOUP and EdQual for their good works in the country which is contributing effectively towards Ghana's education and Africa as a whole. During the technical sessions of the conference the project leader of RECOUP Prof.Madeleine Arnot of University of Cambridge presented a paper on the Overall Global approach to the research consortium on educational outcomes and poverty and the Director Association for change:Principal investigator,Ghana RECOUP project DR.Leslie Casely-Hayford also delivered a document on RECOUP Ghana:its work and policy implications. EdQual will be presenting its mid term report,consisting of EdQual general overview objectives and research activities by Dr.George K.T. Oduro the Institutional Coordinator Ghana tommorrow to end the conference.
