The BDN Ghana Independence Concerts started as an afterthought at the Ghana@50 Independence Celebration about two years ago but has now become its biggest event and more than lived up to expectations last year, with the first time performances of hip life giants, Reggie Rockstone and Tic Tac.
Other performing artists included VIP, Manifest, Mensa and DJ Ice of the U.K. The National Council of Ghanaian Associations of New York (NCOGA) have been very supportive in making sure that Ghanaian indigenous music is represented in the United States of America.
This year's concert comes on the heels of last years performances by the heavy weights of hip life music. On March 14th, 2009, history will repeat itself again.Another "first time in America" show will feature the electrifying, highly acclaimed, long waited performance of the King of African dancehall, "Batman Samini". Samini Batman has just finished recording his fourth CD entitled "Dagaati" which means (Know Your Roots)." Samini Batman enchant audiences around the world with his raspy yet sultry, signature voice and dynamic performance of both old and new Hip Life and Reggae melodies. . Other Nigerian and West African acts are also expected to perform at this historic event.
